Ice Cream… and all my Food Tasting professionally questions

So I’ve been in that weird spot where I can’t decide if I’m hopeful about things changing and being more open or if I feel horribly pessimistic and afraid of being let down and having to shut down again.

So today I was feeling a bit caught in this mind muddle, along with just general uneasiness of what the future holds for me. So I took an edible, watched derry girls in bed, walked at sunset, go ice cream at Salt and Straw and danced in my bedroom. But let’s back up…. when I was standing in the Salt and Straw line with my furry pink sweatshirt, my sweat pants, and beanie- while surrounded by beautiful people, I was looking at their over the top ice cream menu and I started to wonder….

Craft ice cream is that a thing?

Craft ice cream is very much a thing apparently. I found one internet user that points out craft isn’t just better- it’s better for the community, and for the quality of the products. Okay folks. So you are actually saving the world a bit while consuming craft ice cream? Another big internet user shares 7 craft creameries that deliver so you could like become a super fan.

Who makes salt and straws flavors?

Okay so Salt and Straws website is DEEP with content. They have values, a infographic on they do local business, all the things they believe in, and more. Frankly it was interesting but so much for my brain to handle at one time.

Example
Our name celebrates where ice cream came from. And Salt & Straw is where ice cream is going.

Getting poetic salt and straw!

I wonder if they have a ice cream taster?

So this seems to be Tyler, one of the owners that I guess is the wonka of ice cream?

How do you become a food taster? /What’s it like?

Okay so clearly this is a popular question, many article to choice from. But one internet user said you most likely need a degree in food science, or or culinary arts! Orrrrrr you might even be a nutrition studies person. Also fun fact average salary is 52,000. Another fun fact, they literally recommend you skip booze, weed, cigrarettes spicy food etc. to protect your taste buds to become one. WOW. Honestly sounding less inticing, spicy food would be hard to pass up. Another fun fact there are two different types of taste testers, like professional ones for development of food, and then there is a consumer food taster

Mind blown at the level of detail–

“Companies that use consumers simply to give a thumbs-up or thumbs-down on a product, may just ask them to address basic questions like, “Is this egg roll too spicy?” or “Does this pizza have enough cheese?” At Schwan, the tester would taste the product over several bites and enter her answers on a touch-screen computer.”

Truly just imagine if that is what day to day your job was.

What other foods have food tasters?

Apparently its less so about different types of food, and more just when something goes into the market. So essentially a ton of shit is tested, but it’s more by agencys and companys that run all the taste testing. One of the kings of this realm is this sensory company.

So there you have it people. Food tasters, and ice cream what a world!
